This Black Pepper Soy Curls recipe needs just 1 pan and 30 minutes. It’s Asian Black pepper Chikin but vegan! It is a super easy dinner that has a delicious flavor the whole family will love!

Black pepper soy curls

I used to love black pepper chicken or Sichuan pepper chicken in Chinese and inspired restaurants. It usually is a popular favorite amongst many—so I thought why not test out my own vegan-friendly inspiration with soy curls? Soy curls are a great food staple for vegetarians and vegans because they are protein-based and you can do so much with them. Spice it up or marinade them, bake them, pan fry them, shred them, crisp them.

This recipe requires minimal and simple ingredients but it doesn’t lack flavor. The pepper, the sauce and the crunchy veggies are just perfect. This super easy recipe will be a new go-to favorite if you often find yourself with a busy schedule and need something quick to whip up.

I marinade the soycurls in stock then drain and coat in spices and cornstarch and then crisp them up by baking or pan frying. Soaking in stock and adding flavor to the coating adds a deeper flavor in the soycurls. Baking crisps them up nicely to act as crispy chicken which would usually be fried. This adds to the number of steps but we are using same ingredients again in the sauce.

What Are Soy Curls?

Soy curls are made of soy beans. The process to create soy curls comes from boiling and dehydrating whole soybeans. In turn, this process gives this vegan protein a chicken-like texture. They are often used as meat alternatives. Butler soy curls can be found at most health food stores like Whole Foods.

One pan vegan beef with broccoli with soy curls is packed with flavor and is so simple to make! The broccoli cooks right in the sauce to save you time and dishes. This is just an incredibly flavorful, 1 Pan, 30 min, easy stir fry, perfect for weeknight dinners.

vegan beef with broccoli in the pan after adding garnishes

This is a quick stir fry that is popular in Chinese restaurants(in the US). It needs just 1 pan, everyday ingredients and is quick and easy. I use soycurls for the beef. Soycurls are made with soy beans and have a meaty texture. They are available in dried form in stores and online. You can also use seitan or other vegan chicken or beef substitutes.

For the beef, we use soy curls soaked in broth and crisp them up on a skillet with some dark soy sauce and lots of garlic and ginger. The broccoli steams and cooks in the sauce to save a pan, and then we add in a thickener to help the sauce cling to the beefy soy curls and broccoli.

It’s a super quick recipe that just needs one pan, and it makes this ridiculously delicious vegan beef with broccoli.

For the best flavor, use vegan beef-flavored stock for soaking the soy curls.

Why You’ll Love Vegan Beef with Broccoli

  • all that meaty texture and beefy flavor with none of the meat

Indo Chinese crispy chicken made vegan has amazing textures and flavors! Soy curls with a crisp coating are tossed in a sticky-spicy-garlicky sauce. Serve this as an appetizer or as an entree over rice with your favorite veggies.

crispy Indo Chinese chicken in the pan with rice and green onions

This is another favorite Indo Chinese dish. Indochinese cuisine has is a sub cuisine of Indian cuisine with many Chinese and inspired dishes, indianized with spices or change in cooking style.

This dish is usually made with chicken which gets battered and baked or fried until it is crisp and then tossed in a delicious sticky, garlicky, spicy sauce. I use soy curls for the chicken in this recipe. You can also make this with tofu, a vegan chicken substitute, or seitan, but definitely make it because the sauce is the bomb.

If you’re new to Indo Chinese food, it’s a cuisine that originated in Kolkata in the late 1700s when Chinese immigrants were moving to the region in large numbers. It’s an Indian take on Chinese dishes that arose when those immigrants started cooking their favorite dishes from home using ingredients available locally as well as to please the Indian palate. Dishes like Schezwan fried rice and chili chicken have their roots here.

This vegan version of Indo Chinese crispy chicken doesn’t sacrifice any of the textures and flavors of the original. Soy curls have an amazing, chicken-like texture that works perfectly in this dish. And the sauce is just absolutely incredible.
Soy curls are a meat substitute made with just soybeans. You can find them online on Amazon or their brand website butler foods, or in some grocery stores.

eggplant and tofu in the bowl with rice with all of the toppings

This is a super quick peanutty recipe. I had a bunch of eggplant left, so I decided to use it with the tofu. I made this easy peanut butter satay sauce and then tossed the tofu and eggplant in it and then baked it. You can also pan fry the mixture until crispy, if you’d prefer that to baking.

eggplant and tofu mixed with the peanut sauce spread into a lined baking pan after baking

Either way, it’s a really simple eggplant and tofu recipe. It’s just 2 Steps, 1 Pan, 1 Bowl recipe that needs 15 minutes of active time. Just mix all the ingredients for the sauce in a bowl, reserving a few tablespoons for drizzling later. Add your eggplant and tofu to the bowl of sauce, toss, and either bake or pan fry. Serve with rice or quinoa or add this to lettuce wraps.

You can also mix this up to use other veggies besides eggplant, like broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms or bell pepper! Or use more tofu. Eggplant and tofu go well together Especially coated in this flavorful satay-style peanut sauce.

This is tonkotsu-inspired ramen based on a couple of different ramen recipes. It has a spicy base in the broth with jalapeño and sambal oelek. And then it’s topped with simple tofu that has been marinated and seared on all the sides and then sliced, like a char siu pork.

You cook the ramen and everything in just one pot and top it with jalapeño, pepper flakes, or chili oil and whatever else you like. I add mushrooms and fresh veggies like bok choy for flavor and texture, and serve it hot with the seared and sliced tofu. All the flavors in broth and the delicious tofu match so well.
